Overview

The RagnarokSD is T.REX ARMS’ outside-the-waistband holster designed specifically for suppressed pistols. It is a heavily modified version of the standard Ragnarok, retaining the same .125” Kydex construction, the same modular mounting hole pattern on the back, and—critically—the same straight-up-and-down draw stroke. The design problem it addresses is that suppressed pistols are both longer and wider at the muzzle than the slide they hang from, which breaks most conventional holsters and forces users into awkward draws (tipping forward, lifting through a hood, or clearing an unusually tall holster mouth) that conflict with how a normal duty or competition holster runs.

The SD is open-front, which solves the overall length problem: the suppressor exits the bottom rather than bottoming out inside a closed holster body. Retention happens at the light and trigger guard, not at the can.

Construction and Stabilizer Wings

The holster is cut from .125” Kydex and uses four retention screws along the edge of the body. These screws control how tightly the holster grabs the weapon light and the trigger guard area. Adjustment is done with the suppressor removed first—the user dials in retention against the bare gun-and-light combination so the draw feel is correct, then deals with the can separately.

The defining feature is the pair of “wings” or “ears” at the bottom of the holster. These ship as straight, unformed Kydex extensions. Without them, an open-front suppressor holster lets the entire pistol tip forward out of the holster mouth. Once formed around the suppressor, the wings cradle the can and prevent that forward tip-out, adding stability without relying on the suppressor itself for retention.

To form the wings, the user:

  1. Confirms retention is dialed in on the bare pistol-and-light.
  2. Mounts the suppressor.
  3. Heats the wings with a heat gun or hair dryer until the Kydex reaches a pliable, “American cheese” consistency. A wet cloth can be placed at the bend point to keep the rest of the holster cool.
  4. Fully seats the weapon and presses the wings in around the suppressor body, holding until the Kydex cools.

Because Kydex is a thermoplastic, the wings can be reheated and reshaped if the user switches suppressors, host pistols, or barrel-height configurations. The angled side cut of the holster body also acts as a ramp to smooth the draw.

Light and Pistol Compatibility

The RagnarokSD is a light-bearing-only holster. Compatible weapon lights are:

  • SureFire X300T, X300U, X300V (A or B model; B is recommended for added security)
  • SureFire XVL2
  • Streamlight TLR-1 HL, TLR-1 HP, TLR-1 HL-X
  • Streamlight TLR VIR II

It does not work with the original X300 or the X300UH.

On the X300V, the holster grabs the light at the bezel, so the front pair of retention screws are the ones to clamp down for security. On the X300U, retention indexes lower on the body, and a different pair of screws drives adjustment. The rear screw controls trigger-guard contact and influences exactly where the holster rides on the gun.

Tested host pistols include:

  • Glock 19/17/34/45 (and .40/.357 variants)
  • CZ P-10C, P-01, SP-01, P-07, P-09, Shadow 2
  • HK P30, P2000, VP9, HK45
  • Springfield XD, XD Mod.2, XDM
  • Walther PPQ, Q4, Q5, PDP
  • Beretta M9A1
  • FN FNX-45, 509, FNS
  • SIG P320, P320-XTEN, P226, P227, P229, P220, MK25
  • S&W M&P series
  • Canik TP9
  • P-80
  • Ruger MK IV (Railed)
  • 1911 Operator
  • 2011 / Springfield Prodigy

It does not fit Glock 21/20, Glock 30/29, or the HK USP9 with MR09 rail. The compatibility list reflects what T.REX has tested; the holster will generally work with anything that accepts one of the supported lights, but configurations outside the list are unverified.

Suppressor compatibility is open-ended because the wings are user-formed. Cans T.REX has run with the holster include the Gemtech 9 TUNDRA and SureFire Ryder 9, both of which have similar diameters and pair well with Glocks. Larger-diameter cans (e.g., Osprey, .45-caliber suppressors) may require dedicated holsters formed for those specific setups, since the wing geometry is matched to a particular gun-plus-can combination.

Mounting and Belt Integration

The back of the holster carries the standard Ragnarok modular hole pattern, which accepts attachments from Safariland, Blade-Tech, G-Code, and Blackhawk. Common configurations include the QLS system, Safariland forks paired with a UBL mid-ride and thigh strap, or paddle and offset mounts. If the attachment is purchased together with the holster from T.REX, it will arrive pre-installed; attachments purchased separately are shipped uninstalled.

For night-vision and suppressed-pistol use, a Safariland UBL with a thigh strap is one demonstrated setup, dropping the holster low enough that the additional length of the suppressed pistol still presents cleanly during the draw.

Draw Behavior

The reason the RagnarokSD exists in this form rather than as a hooded or tipping design is training consistency. The draw stroke is identical to a standard Ragnarok, a Safariland ALS, or a competition open-top holster: straight up, no deactivation step, no forward tilt. A user running a suppressed pistol in the SD and an unsuppressed pistol in a standard holster does not have to maintain two different motor patterns.

On the re-holster, the weapon light contacts the holster mouth first and indexes the gun, after which it drives down into the retention area and the suppressor settles into the formed wings.
